I have recently been introduced to Twitter.com At first I did not understand what all the fuss was about. Why would I be interested in what someone has had for breakfast? Who cares what I am doing for the day?
This week having been snowed in, combined with installing free software called Tweetdeck, I have begun to see the marketing power of it. The membership of this site has doubled just from the increased awareness. When you add valuable content that other people find useful they ‘retweet’ it which means they send the message to people who are following their content. When I tweet about my blogs then people who like them let people in their network know about them.
I have picked up some very useful information about salesforce.com and Siebel on Demand and asked to speak at an event in a sector I had not previously targeted.
I am still an amateur on Twitter (does that make me a twit?!). It does seem that you need to be adding value with your posts rather than just relentless self promoting all the time. It also seems to help to show a human side rather than being overly serious. There is also a balance to be had between posting too much content and not posting enough.
On the basis of results from the last couple of days its something I will continue to work with. My sense is that it is going to be huge and worth investing time in.

Hi Richard,
I think you hit the nail on the head some time ago when writing this article – with Twitter, it really is better to show a personal, more human side than just to use it for self-promotion. Mind you, the amount of time it can start to take from your life can be all-consuming!
Thanks

Hi Richard,
Thank Goodness I am following you!! I was lead to believe that Twitter is an advantage to let the world know we are here and lead people to our informative helpful blogs. While at the same time showing a little of our personality so we can start to build relationships with people who we don’t know but they like what we are doing?
I have been shocked to see so many people using Twitter as an advertising campaign with no thought for writing blogs or giving helpful information to others. Thier Twitters are about me -me -me plus they are very boring.
I was pleased to read this blog as it confirmed to me that I am doing the right thing.
Thank You So Much For Your Help.
Regards
Pam Gurney
