This is good advice. A good starting point would be to answer questions like the following in writing and spontaneously:

- sales people are....
- selling is....
- I hate sales people because....
- I like sales people because...

You discover what you truly feel about selling (you can replace with cold calling or any part of the sales process that is frustrating you). As with Richard's business owner, how can you become a good sales person if you have a negative opinion of them?

Once you are aware of your negative feeling/opinion, you can start looking for proofs to the contrary.

This is great advise. I just got a job selling ads for my local paper. It's my first selling gig and this piece of advise is a nice kick start. I am looking forward to all the advice available on this web site.
A big fat thank you.
